We're looking for a Tax Manager to join us on a 15 month fixed term contract covering parental leave. You'll be someone who thrives in a collaborative environment and enjoys tackling a wide range of tax matters, from direct and indirect taxes to strategic advisory. This is a dynamic, hands-on role where no two days are the same, it's ideal for someone who enjoys applying their technical expertise while working closely with stakeholders across the business.
Key responsibilities include:
- Manage the preparation of the NZ income tax return(s), including providing support to the finance team in preparing the tax calculations for separate legal entities, reviewing the calculations for accuracy and completeness and preparing the consolidated tax return
- Review FBT, GST, AIL and PAYE returns/ payments
- Review of key contracts and material projects for tax risks and opportunities for improvement
- Manage the process surrounding Mercury's research and development tax incentive claim, and undertake the calculation
- Coordinate the preparation of and review Mercury's tax provision and deferred tax calculations for statutory, business reporting and cashflow forecasting
- Partner with the business to identify tax risks and opportunities, helping shape smart, commercially sound decisions.
We are looking for:
- Relevant qualification preferably with a major in Accounting or Tax
- Achieved, or working towards, recognised professional body qualification
- Experience in a specialist tax role - corporate experience is preferred but not essential
- A strong working knowledge of NZ tax legislation (Income Tax, GST, and Tax Administration Acts).
- Working knowledge of NZ IAS 12 and basic understanding of general accounting principles, including IFRS
- A confident communicator who can translate complex tax concepts into practical advice for a range of stakeholders.
