At He Whānau Manaaki Kindergartens, we have over 100 kindergartens across the regions we serve, bringing learning, connection, and fun to families across Whanganui, Central Plateau, Manawatu, Horowhenua, Kāpiti, Porirua, Greater Wellington, Upper Hutt, Wairarapa as well as South Otago. We also provide a home-based service - Etu Ao in Porirua and Levin.
Our vision for He Whānau Manaaki o Tararua is derived from our belief in the importance of quality early childhood education for the children themselves, their whānau, their community and for Aotearoa New Zealand. Therefore, we seek to be a leader in the provision of high-quality early childhood education, and by demonstrating what can be achieved, be seen as advocates for children and whānau and help to improve quality early childhood education throughout Aotearoa New Zealand.

Community Description
Te Ō Newtown Kindergarten is a vibrant and inclusive kindergarten located just off Adelaide Road near Wellington Hospital. The kindergarten offers a warm, welcoming environment where tamariki (children) are encouraged to explore, learn, and grow through a rich, play-based curriculum.
The Kindergarten features a spacious, indoor area and a large, well-equipped outdoor space that supports physical activity and imaginative play.
The team have a strong focus on being led by Te Tiriti o Waitangi and implementing practices to make this explicit.
The curriculum integrates Te Ao Māori and Te Reo Māori, fostering a bicultural learning environment.
Te Ō Newtown Kindergarten also celebrates the cultural diversity of its community and places strong emphasis on whānau (family) engagement, empowerment, and holistic development.
The teaching team consists of five qualified and registered teachers, supported by a part-time administrator.
This fixed term commences 30th July 2025 until 3rd July 2026 to cover leave at this kindergarten.
As a part-time teacher your total hours of work will be 24 per week.
Monday 8am-1:30pm (.5 hr lunch break)
Tuesday 11:00-4:30pm (.5 hr lunch break)
Wednesday 11:00-4:30pm (.5 hr lunch break)
Thursday 8am-1:30pm (.5 hr lunch break)
Friday 10:45-2:45pm
We are licensed for 40 children who attend 6 hours each day.

- can show confidence to support Te Reo Māori and committed to deepening our cultural journey in Tiriti o Waitangi
- can show professional learning using internal evaluation processes and apply this new learning to teaching practice
- has a strength in providing an inclusive curriculum that promotes children's sense of themselves as active learners
- celebrates other cultures through forming relationships with whānau with a lens of supporting their wealth of knowledge they bring with them to our kindergarten learning community
- engages in pedagogical discussions with team, reflects on practice and make improvements to benefit best outcomes for children.
