An opportunity has arisen for an experienced Technical Lead to join the Business System Delivery and Assurance (BSDA) team with Te Whakatairanga Service Delivery Branch.



The Building System Delivery Assurance team is responsible for a range of building regulatory functions involving regulatory compliance, monitoring and assurance, and service delivery. These functions include monitoring of Building Consent Authorities and Territorial Authorities, building products assurance, oversight of CodeMark as the building product certification scheme, and assessment of MultiProof applications.

Reporting to the National Manager, Building Regulatory Delivery, the Technical Lead is responsible for:

  • Providing technical advice, drawing on their comprehensive knowledge of the building and construction sector, on a variety of regulatory and investigative functions, such as product assurance, the CodeMark scheme and National
  • Multiple Use Approval (MultiProof) applications, and wider regulatory implications.
  • Contributing to the management of key strategic relationships with the sector.
  • Identifying critical issues, important trends, key risks, and opportunities.
  • Technical coaching and guidance to develop team members.

Partnering with the wider Building Regulatory Delivery management team, this position plays a key role in supporting the Building Systems Delivery Assurance team to effectively deliver a range of regulatory and investigative functions that are critical for delivering on MBIE's role as the central regulator of the building regulatory system.

Skills and Experience Required

  • Comprehensive knowledge of the Building Act and other relevant legislation.
  • Ability to understand, use and explain the building regulatory framework.
  • Ability to critically analyse complex situations and to recommend robust solutions.
  • Experience managing internal and external stakeholders, including undertaking projects with representatives from building sector organisations
  • Strong track record in providing senior support to a delivery focused team
  • Experience providing coaching and mentoring for developing team members
  • Ability to apply critical thinking, and support decision making utilising legislation and technical experience
  • Well-developed technical writing ability
  • Have proven ability to develop trust and credibility with managers and staff including skills in managing upwards.
  • Must have the legal right to live and work in New Zealand
