Are you a skilled technical leader ready to shape the future of digital learning? Open Polytechnic is seeking a Technical Team Leader to guide the development of our iQualify platform, ensuring it remains scalable, secure, and aligned with our strategic goals.
As the Technical Team Leader, you'll provide technical leadership across the iQualify platform, plan and implement the Teechnical roadmap to ensure the platform is secure, efficent and scaleable. You'll lead a team of Full Stack Leads, contribute to technical decision-making, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure the platform supports learner success and organisational priorities.
This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, agile environment and is passionate about innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
This position is permanent full-time position based at our campus in Lower Hutt, with some flexibility around working from home.
Key responsibilities include:
- Define and uphold the technical vision and architecture for the iQualify platform
- Lead the planning and delivery of the Technical Roadmap to ensure the platform is stable, secure and scaleable.
- Guide and mentor the Full Stack Leads and Developer team
- Collaborate with Product Owners, UX designers, and stakeholders to translate requirements into solutions
- Promote best practices in development, testing, and DevOps
- Drive innovation through proof-of-concepts and emerging technologies
- Ensure compliance with data protection, accessibility, and security standards
- Support incident response and risk mitigation efforts

- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field
- 5-7 years of experience in software development and technical leadership
- Strong background in full-stack development, cloud platforms, and modern web technologies
- Experience with agile methodologies and DevOps practices
- Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Commitment to quality, innovation, and continuous learning
