Based in the vibrant coastal town of Oamaru, Network Waitaki is an electricity distribution and energy services business that powers our local economy.
Network Waitaki Contracting provide electrical construction and maintenance services across New Zealand. We currently have depots based in Oamaru and Cromwell with a team of approximately 60 people across management and field staff within our contracting team.
About the role
As a Trainee Utility Arborist, you’ll be part of a skilled team responsible for maintaining vegetation around power lines and network assets. You’ll learn how to safely trim and remove trees near live electrical equipment, support fault response work, and help deliver vegetation services to private customers.
This is a physically active, outdoor role that offers variety, challenge, and the opportunity to gain a nationally recognised qualification. You’ll be supported every step of the way with on-the-job training, mentoring, and a clear development pathway.

Preferred attributes
- A great attitude and strong focus on safety
- Working towards obtaining the required utility arborist qualification (UAL2).
- A full Class 1 Driver's Licence (Class 2 a bonus)

- Has strong communication skills and a willingness to learn
