About the role
Due to a resignation in our Tug Team, a unique opportunity has arisen for someone to join the Marine team as a Tug Master.
You will need to be able to demonstrate strong leadership skills and a willingness to lead all aspects of Tug operations.
For those applicants with a Master Foreign-Going ticket, in time we may provide support and training for you to move into a Marine Officer role.
Key responsibilities include:
- The ability to lead all aspects of Tug operations and to build engagement with the wider Tug and Marine teams.
- Safe and efficient control and operation of tugs in the Port of Lyttelton.
- Acting as a positive and proactive leadership role model within the Marine Team.
- Fulfilling the agreed roster and job responsibilities, including coverage of the two LPC tugs.
- Effective communication between tug crews and other key stakeholders at LPC.
- Ensuring our tug operations remain compliant with relevant legislation and the requirements of the LPC Marine Transport Operator Plan.
- Act as a role model and leader in Health & Safety and contribute to continuous improvement of safety practices.
- Involvement in projects and initiatives to further enhance the effectiveness of operations and culture within the Marine Team.
About you
Working as an integral part of a small team you will need to be reliable, flexible and energetic. You will be an effective communicator who can demonstrate a positive and solutions-oriented leadership style.
If you are someone with the right qualification and experience, who stays calm under pressure, has a strong interest in marine operations, and can fulfil the job responsibilities of Tug Master, then we would be keen to hear from you.
You will possess the following:
- Master Foreign-Going ticket or a Skipper Restricted Limits certificate (SRL) with 500 tonne endorsement (or equivalent)
- Prior experience as a Tug Master or equivalent vessel handling skills
- Strong communication and leadership skills
- A Health and Safety mindset
