About Us:
European Bakery is a long-established wholesale bakery in the heart of Queenstown, renowned for our exceptional range of traditional European breads and bread products. We are looking to expand our team and are offering several exciting opportunities from experienced bakers to food trades assistants.
What We Offer:
- Full-time, permanent positions with a guaranteed minimum of 32 hours per week.

ROLE ONE: BAKER - 3 positions availiable - Pay rate $30 - $35 per hour depending on experience. Duties:
- Prepare and bake a variety of artisan breads using traditional, manual
methods. - Mix all doughs from scratch, including using a natural sourdough starter.
- Operate and manage a deck oven and rotational oven, ensuring efficient workflow.
- Hand-cut and shape dough with precision and efficiency, maintaining the highest standards of craftsmanship.
- Troubleshoot and make necessary adjustments to dough and baking processes.
- Manage the flow of dough production to ensure optimum efficiency in the bakery.
- Some shift leadership may be offered for the right candidate
What We’re Looking For the Bakers Role:
- A qualified baker (NZQA Level 4 bakery/pastry or above) or trained equivalent with a minimum of 3 years of experience.
- Strong dough mixing and shaping skills, with experience in a medium-scale wholesale bakery.
- Proven ability to manage the production flow from mixing to baking.
- A genuine passion for bread-making and a keen interest in being part of an evolving artisan bakery.
ROLE 2: FOOD TRADES ASSISTANT - 3 postions available pay rate from $27 - $29 an hour depending on experience. This is primarily in our distribution team. Duties:
- Packing of products in order in to boxes and crates accurately according to invoices
- Slicing and labelling bread
- Operate machinery in accordance with safety standards
- Keeping the workstation clean and tidy.
- Cleaning of equipment, work benches and floors, deep cleaning as required
- Strictly follow our hygiene regulations and understand HACCAP in accordance with the European Bakery Food Plan and Food Safety act
Other duties may include:
- Kitchen hand /cleaning
- Prepare equipment ready for use - tray & tin
- Finishing of all products with correct toppings
- Preparing ingredients - egg wash, pre-mix, filling ingredient containers
- Learn to shape artisan doughs according to our bakers methods
- Learn to scale dough with care and efficiency according to bakers method
What We’re Looking For the Food Trades Assistant Roles:
- No qualification is required however we are looking for someone who has some previous work experience, is fast learner and can work quickly and efficiently.
- An interest in bread and the bread making process is a must
All roles require the following:
- Flexibility to work shifts including weekends, and public holidays
- Hours will start between 7am - 1pm and finish between 3pm - 10pm depending on role
- Physical fitness to handle frequent heavy lifting and long hours on your feet.
- Ability to understand and converse in English.
- A great team member
- Willingness to participate in a skill trial to demonstrate your capabilities.
- NZ citizenship, residency, or a valid NZ work visa.
