About the role

Adult Inpatient Services:

  • Te Awakura is a 64-bed adult acute inpatient unit that provides 24-hour care for consumers with mental illness. Our model of care focuses on integrated multidisciplinary teams, providing excellent care for consumers in the least restrictive manner. Consisting of four open 16 bed acute inpatient wards (North, East, South and West).

Extended Care Units:

  • Wahi Oranga: A 16-bed sub-acute unit supporting whaiora with high and complex mental health needs who required extended care.
  • Wahi Wāhi Tautoko: A 10-bed unit offering extended assessment, therapeutic support, and skill-building to help whaiora reintegrate into the community.

North inpatients services the east quadrant of the city. We are a close-knit team and have a good relationship with our Outpatient Team. We have a strong emphasis on providing high quality care, ensuring the consumer, family and whanau are at the centre of all we do.

Whilst this role is for North Inpatients CNM, from time to time, our senior nurses are required to work in other wards within AIG, this can be for extended periods of time as needed to support the wider teams.

About You

In this professional and clinical leadership role, you will effectively contribute to the ongoing development of excellent practice and the professional workforce within the service. The role has a function that is both clinical and operational, therefore you will have excellent clinical credibility as well as an ability to ensure the operational objectives are carried out in line with the Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora vision.

  • With your proven ability to lead, you will be an expert at supporting the team to develop excellent skills to enable them to continue to deliver a high standard of care.
  • As a positive role model, you will be highly motivated with excellent communication skills and have the ability to build successful relationships within the service.
  • Working collaboratively with the MDT, Clinical Nurse Specialist, other Charge Nurse Manager - s across the Adult Inpatient Group, and the Senior Leadership Team, you will strive to ensure the overall provision of quality care for service users.
  • Must either hold orhave commenced the post graduate pathway with the focus on nursing.
  • Must be registered with the Nursing Council of New Zealand and have Mental Health Scope with a current APC.
  • Your expert communication, interpersonal skills and proven ability to engage people at all levels will see you work effectively and efficiently with a diverse group of teams to lead your team to provide advanced clinical care and nursing expertise to the patients and their families/whanau.
  • By utilising your advanced knowledge and clinical skills in collaboration with nursing and the MDT, and other external agencies you will contribute to the development and maintenance of high quality evidenced based patient care whilst also contributing to and developing, appropriate nursing standards and quality initiatives.
  • You have a comprehensive understanding of professional competency and can work alongside individuals to support professional development.

Essential skills:

  • Experience in relevant management and/or leadership roles with the ability to influence decision making and change.
  • Interpersonal skills and building relationships.
  • Strategic thinking and promoting interdisciplinary collaboration.
  • Familiar with operational and financial management.
  • NZ Registered Nurse with a current Annual Practising Certificate and either working towards or hold a relevant Post Graduate qualification.
