The Chief Advisor Strategic Design role will sit in the Strategy Implementation function to enable us to build our capability in systems thinking and strategic design. The role will also support our Intervention and Evaluation team to mature our capability in this important area.
About the role / O te turanga
This is an internal or inter-agency secondment opportunity only for an 18-month period, expected end date 2 April 2027.
As the Chief Advisor Strategic Design, you will lead the development of the strategic elements of WorkSafe's intervention design. You will be thinking about our role in the system, our strategy and the tools and techniques we use to regulate and support WorkSafe to use these - encouraging creativity and flexibility where appropriate. You will lead on initiatives across WorkSafe to tackle some tough policy challenges, drawing on the best examples of regulating locally and globally. Ultimately, you will be working towards our strategy and vision.

- Develop strategies by identifing the problem, deciding the plan for the desired change.
- Design strategic regulatory responses.
- Oversee implementation.
- Engage and collaborate with a diverse range of stakeholders.
- Adapt and improve by monitoring and evaluating outputs.
What You'll Bring / Ko nga pukenga ou
- A strong understanding of strategic regulatory intervention design principles - knowledge of different methodologies and best practices is essential both locally and globally.
- Excellent delivery & team management skills - ability to plan, organise, and manage complex initiatives with multiple components.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills - ability to build relationships, facilitate collaboration, and communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
- Analytical and problem-solving skills - ability to identify problems, analyse data, and develop creative solutions.
- Experience in the relevant field - experience at a senior level in government, agencies that require strategic intervention design approaches to deliver their strategy and any other field where this capability is aligned to strategy.
- Adaptability and flexibility - ability to adjust the intervention as needed based on feedback and changing circumstances.

Salary range / Awhe utu
As part of our remuneration framework the full salary range for the position is from $177,996 to $234,025, and our expected starting base salary for the right person is from $177,996 to $196,846. Note: KiwiSaver/SSRSS employer contribution is additional too/on top of your base salary.
