About us
Genesis Energy is one of New Zealand's leading electricity generators and energy retailer, supplying electricity, natural gas and LPG to more than half a million customers across the country and providing almost 20% of New Zealand's electricity.
We are accelerating New Zealand's transition to a low-carbon future through our Gen35 Strategy, undertaking a $1.1 billion investment programme in new renewable generation, to make Genesis 95% renewable by 2035 with around 8,300 GWh. In addition, we have set a target of reaching net zero as a company by 2040. To help deliver on this ambitious mission, we are on the lookout for the right talent to help us deliver.
About the Role
Genesis is on an ambitious journey to decarbonise our portfolio and accelerate the transition to renewable energy across Aotearoa. As our Environmental Manager - Wind Development, you'll take a leading role in shaping the future of utility-scale wind generation in New Zealand.
Reporting to the General Manager - Environment and Community, you'll drive the consenting and environmental strategy for wind projects, contributing to early-stage feasibility and site selection, through to project managing preparation of assessment of environmental effects, consultation and consenting.
You'll work closely with internal stakeholders, iwi partners, regulators, landowners, and other key stakeholders to identify opportunities, mitigate risks, and bring high-quality wind projects to life. This is a unique opportunity to lead environmental workstreams for nationally significant projects that support our renewable targets and builds a more sustainable energy future for generations to come.
Please note that this is a permanent, full-time opportunity and can be based in our Hamilton or Auckland office.
About You
You're an experienced professional who thrives at the intersection of science, strategy, and stakeholder engagement. With a deep understanding of the RMA and environmental legislation, you bring both technical capability and a strong collaborative mindset. Your ability to lead consenting strategy and implement complex consenting programmes to achieve successful project outcomes will set you apart.
We're looking for someone with:
- A relevant tertiary qualification in environmental management, planning, science or equivalent
- At least 8 years of environmental and consenting experience across industry, local government, or consulting
- Significant working knowledge of the RMA
- Significant experience in the energy sector, ideally in wind development or renewable infrastructure projects
