Te āheinga: The opportunity
Unitec's School of Social Practice is seeking an experienced and committed Lecturer to contribute to the delivery of our Social Practice programmes. This role involves teaching and supporting students across undergraduate and postgraduate levels, in social work and academic writing associated fields.
You will be part of a collaborative academic team dedicated to fostering student success and advancing socially responsive education. This is a unique opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to a programme that is grounded in principles of equity and community engagement.
Key Responsibilities
- Teach and develop curriculum in social work and academic writing related fields across undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
- Support diverse and mature students through academic supervision and responsive teaching practices.
- Ensure continuity of delivery for the Bachelor of Social Practice programme and maintaining high standards of education and learners' engagement.
- Collaborate with colleagues and stakeholders to foster inclusive, community-focused learning environments.
- Champion social justice and innovation in tertiary education, contributing to Unitec's mission to address inequality through transformative learning.
Fixed Term Full time position until 7th of August 2026

He kōrero mōu: About you
To be successful in this role, you will bring:
- Current registration with the Social Workers Registration Board (SWRB) and a valid practising certificate.
- A Master's qualification in Social Work or Social Practice, or current enrolment in a relevant Master's programme.
- At least five years of professional experience in the field of Social Services or Social Practice.
- Demonstrated teaching experience in tertiary education, with the ability to engage and support a diverse student population.
- Understanding and application of Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles, with experience as a Te Tiriti-based practitioner is preferred.
- Knowledge and practice of Ako and Ngāti Tūkana/Ngāti Teina frameworks, contributing to culturally responsive teaching and learning.
- A collaborative and research-active mindset, with a commitment to contributing to a supportive academic team and ongoing professional development.
- An understanding or desire to learn te reo Māori, tikanga Māori, and the values and practices of kaupapa Māori
- Evidence of active engagement in building diverse, inclusive, and equitable workplaces/environments
