Lecturer Carpentry

As part of our ongoing commitment to inspiring students and communities to succeed UCOL’s is seeking a highly motivated lecturer, or suitably qualified professional to deliver our NZC Construction Trade Skills (Carpentry) L3 programmes

This is a fixed-term position, 40 hours/week. The successful candidate will be a qualified carpenter with a minimum of National / NZ Certificate in Carpentry or equivalent qualification and ideally ten (10) years current industry experience. It would be a strong advantage if you were a LBP and also held the NZ Certificate in Adult Literacy & Numeracy Education (NZCALNE), the NZ Certificate in Adult Tertiary Teaching (NZCAT) or equivalent and unit 4098 workbased assessor, however these are not a requirement.

This position, based at Freyberg High School in Palmerston North, will require you to be hands on, facilitating one on one learning, mentoring, motivating and working with students individually, so your well-tuned rapport and communication skills will be required. As well as working with a dynamic team you will have the full support of the Academic Portfolio Manager with all delivery resources and practical assessments fully developed. You will support and supervise the students’ building projects, including a 2-bed house.

Skills & Experience

• Minimum of National / New Zealand Certificate in Carpentry or equivalent

• LBP preferred but not essential.

• An Adult Tertiary Teaching qualification and/or the NZ Certificate in Adult Literacy and Numeracy Education and/or unit 4098 workbased assessor or be working toward these

• Experience delivering at the tertiary level and/or extensive industry experience (ideally 10 years); with training and supporting apprentices an advantage.
