Te Haeata/The Opportunity
We are seeking an enthusiastic, dynamic and customer centric Library Advisor to join our small Ministry of Justice Library team.
This position plays a key role in the team by supporting the functions of the library to ensure services are high quality, efficient and effective.
This is a full time, fixed-term position covering parental leave until November 2026 based at our National Office, Wellington. We are seeking someone who can ideally start as soon as possible.
What you will be doing:
You will be part of a small library team and experience every part of running a library – from cataloguing and circulations to information research and marketing.
Specific tasks will include:
Collection Management
- cataloguing and processing new resources
- adding our holdings to WorldShare database, creating interim records if required
- shelving, stocktaking & weeding
Circulation
- managing our borrower database, adding new borrowers & removing staff when they leave the Ministry
- providing library inductions for new staff
- issuing, returning & renewing books for staff
- managing our overdue system
Current awareness
- managing our table of contents ejournal services
- creating & updating reading lists
- keeping our intranet pages up to date
Information Research
- undertaking information research for staff as requested.
Ō pūkenga/Skills and Experience
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- previous experience working in a library setting
- ability to work collaboratively as part of a team
- excellent customer service focus with the ability to develop and maintain positive relationships
- high level accuracy and attention to detail
- strong oral and written communication skills
- highly developed IT and keyboard skills
- have an understanding and appreciation of cultural issues and concerns in particular Tikanga Maori.

Utu ā-tau/Salary
The appointing salary for this role will be between $69,050 and $94,348 based on skills and experience.
