Tenei turanga - About the Role:

Take your career to the next level - Be part of the Kanoa - Regional Economic Development Investment Unit leadership team. In this role you will be leading an established policy team with a busy work programme, joining at a key time in the delivery of the Regional Infrastructure Fund.

The team is responsible for supporting the delivery Kanoa managed funds, leading regional economic development policy development and stewardship; and operational policy to support Kanoa and Crown Regional Holdings Limited.

A key function of the role is developing and maintaining networks and relationships with key government agency partners and colleagues across Kanoa, MBIE and Government. We are looking for an experienced policy leader with political nous who takes a collaborative approach to policy development and relishes the challenge of working in a fast paced and agile environment to achieve outcomes.

Kanoa - Regional Economic Development Investment Unit has the goal of enhancing economic development, meaningful employment opportunities and positive social outcomes in regional New Zealand. We work across government and with industry, communities, iwi and local government through our programmes.

  • Understands the strategic context, current policy agenda and priorities, and is able to apply foresight and judgement to shape the work programme and policy projects to anticipate needs and priorities of the Minister and Ministry.
  • Is able to apply strong intellectual capability to analyse large, complex policy issues and readily grasp and synthesise the ideas, analysis and advice produced by others.
  • Demonstrates mastery of public policy processes and has an in-depth understand of the policy production process, including stakeholder consultation processes.
  • Is able to communicate and persuade using a range of oral, written and visual mediums in diverse situations.
  • Is sensitive to how people and organisation function, deals comfortably with organisation politics and anticipates land mines and plans approach accordingly.
  • Proven track record of managing a team in a medium to large public sector or business organisation.
  • Have policy leadership experience, someone who has built strong, collaborative teams
  • Must have the legal right to live and work in New Zealand.
