About the role

We are currently seeking an exceptional person to fill the above role based at He Puna Waiora, North Shore Hospital. The main purpose of this position is to enhance our clinical care with mātauranga Māori. This will see you providing Māori cultural initiatives, advice, guidance, and support for people and their whānau, undertaking cultural interventions and supporting the cultural development of the wider team. This role is based at He Puna Waiora Inpatient Unit, and will be closely supported by our taurawhiri, kaumātua and cultural team leader.

About You

The position suits a person who has a strong understanding and application of tikanga Māori; is proficient in te reo Māori; has a good understanding of Māori health models; and is passionate about making a valuable contribution to Māori Mental health and wellbeing.

The successful candidate will need to:

  • be passionate about health and wellbeing
  • be self-motivated and mature in life’s challenging experiences
  • live by whānau, hapū and Iwi values
  • be able to converse in te reo Māori
  • be competent in applying tikanga Māori and
  • have a full driver’s licence

A bonus would be:

  • a qualification and/or training in tikanga Māori
  • a qualification and/or training in Māori mental health and addictions

  • facilitate cultural interventions
  • apply te Whare Tapa Whā as a model of care
