About the Role

The Regional Cancer Treatment Service (RCTS) provides medical oncology, radiation oncology and clinical haematology services to the MidCentral, Hawke's Bay, Wairarapa, Whanganui, and Taranaki Districts.

We are seeking to appoint a Medical Oncologist (1 FTE) for the Regional Cancer Treatment Service. We are looking for someone to join our team in Hawke's Bay.

Our RCTS provides systemic therapy with facilities for inpatient care in Palmerston North and outpatient treatment in Palmerston North, Hawke's Bay and Taranaki. We currently have a team of SMOs based in Palmerston North and Hawke's Bay and we are keen to grow our service across the region. There will be the opportunity to develop cancer services in Hawke's Bay and contribute meaningfully to the community. There is the opportunity to develop tumour focused practice, with collegial support managing a range of solid tumours.

The RCTS maintains an active clinical research portfolio, and possibilities exist for linkages with Massey University for pre-clinical research. You will support a multi-disciplinary team specialising in cancer, supporting Multi-Disciplinary Meetings and provide clinicians with advice on the management of the patient with cancer in the inpatient setting.

About you

Applicants for this position must be Fellows of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians in Medical Oncology or equivalent and hold, or be eligible for, vocational registration with the New Zealand Medical Council. Applicants must also have demonstrated clinical skills and the ability to work effectively within our multi-disciplinary teams.

What can we offer you?

  • A diverse, dynamic and collegial team environment
  • Ongoing training and development opportunities
  • Six weeks annual leave per annum
  • 10 paid days per annum available for continued medical education including a generous allowance towards costs of course and travel
  • Generous relocation packages for national and international candidates

About the Location

The Hawke's Bay has much to offer – the stunning climate and beaches; the wide range of sporting and leisure opportunities; the art, wine, food, and culture; and an environment and work/life balance you're looking for. See the Hawke's Bay Region's website for more information.
