The Opportunity
We’re seeking an experienced Payroll practitioner to join our New Zealand Payroll Solutions team in a Team Leader role. This senior role blends hands-on payroll expertise with leadership, coaching, and continuous improvement.
As a Team Leader, you’ll split your time between:
- Payroll processing & review (approx. 40%) – managing complex client payrolls, conducting audits and reviews, and ensuring compliance with New Zealand legislation.
- Leadership & projects (approx. 60%) – mentoring team members, onboarding and supporting clients, overseeing quality assurance, and driving continuous improvement initiatives.
Ideally based in Invercargill, but open to other locations for the right candidate, this is your chance to step into a visible, impactful role where you’ll influence client outcomes, team culture, and service delivery standards across New Zealand.
What will your typical week look like?
- Undertake complex payroll processing, conduct audits/reviews, and ensure compliance with NZ legislation.
- Mentor, train, and onboard team members, building capability and confidence.
- Onboarding and supporting clients, acting as an escalation point for issues, resolving queries efficiently while maintaining strong relationships.

We are looking for someone with:
- 5+ years recent NZ payroll experience (3+ years senior level), ideally in a multi-client/bureau environment, with in-depth knowledge of legislation and compliance (Holidays Act, PAYE, KiwiSaver).
- Proven experience mentoring, training, and supporting other payroll practitioners.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and customer service abilities.
