Te Haeata/The Opportunity
Te Ao Mārama is a judicially led kaupapa that will improve the experience for all people who participate in the court system, including victims and whānau. By partnering with iwi and engaging with communities, Te Ao Mārama will be designed to best serve each community's specific needs.
We're looking for a seasoned Principal Advisor , Engagement to provide expert strategic advice and lead the development, design, and implementation of innovative service delivery approaches that put people at the centre of the system.
This is a fixed term role until December 2025, and we would ideally like someone that can start immediately to help deliver this transformative programme of work.
Your work will help drive continuous improvement, strengthen national consistency, and ensure our work aligns with the values of te ao Māori, the aspirations of communities, and best practice in public sector operations.
In this role, you will
- provide strategic advice, service design, and implementation of major change initiatives
- champion kaupapa Māori values, embedding tikanga Māori into service delivery models
- ensure whānau, hapū, iwi and communities are at the centre of how we design and deliver justice
- work closely with judiciary, internal teams, and external partners to bring ideas to life
- promote innovation, national consistency, and system-wide capability across the Ministry.
Ō pūkenga/Skills and Experience
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- proven experience in service design, commissioning, operational change, or process improvement
- strong understanding of the machinery of government
- deep respect for and knowledge of tikanga Māori; te reo Māori capability is an advantage
- skilled relationship management with iwi, Māori stakeholders and justice sector partners
- ability to provide high-quality strategic advice and lead across complexity
- experience working in or with large or complex organisations, ideally in the public sector
- excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Utu ā-tau/Salary
The appointing salary for this role will be between $129,129 and $179,192 based on skills and experience.
