About the Role
As a Project Director within the Infrastructure and Investment Group's (IIG) National Delivery team, you will lead the delivery of major capital works projects, some exceeding $1 billion in value, that are essential to the future of healthcare in New Zealand.
You will play a key role in shaping the infrastructure that supports equitable, high quality health services across the country. This role is focused on Project Whakatupuranga – Nelson Hospital Redevelopment. The role will leverage cross-portfolio initiatives, looking at standardised commercial models, and ensuring projects are delivered efficiently, sustainably, and with strong stakeholder engagement.
This is a senior leadership role that requires strategic vision, adaptive leadership, and the ability to navigate complex public sector environments. You'll report to the Head of Delivery but work closely with a Regional Leadership and other internal and external partners to deliver infrastructure that meets the needs of our growing and diverse population.

The IIG team are focused on delivering high-impact infrastructure investments that support the transformation of New Zealand's health system. Giving support, oversight and assurance across projects and programmes, they understand that safe, fit for purpose health facilities, sites and equipment are essential for a well-functioning health system that improves the health of all New Zealanders.
About you
You are an accomplished and strategic leader with a proven track record in delivering complex infrastructure projects of significant scale and public importance. Your professional experience spans over a decade of Senior Project and leadership roles, during which you have consistently demonstrated the ability to lead multidisciplinary teams, manage high value capital investments, and navigate the intricacies of public sector governance and stakeholder engagement.
You lead with a calm, confident presence, guiding diverse teams through challenges with clarity and empathy. You're a natural collaborator who listens deeply, communicates clearly, and builds trust across a wide range of stakeholders, from government officials to community leaders, clinicians to contractors.
You possess a deep understanding of infrastructure delivery within the health sector or similarly complex environments, and you bring a sophisticated grasp of project management methodologies, commercial frameworks, and risk mitigation strategies.
You have a passion for delivering infrastructure that makes a difference. You're someone who sees the bigger picture and is driven by purpose. You understand that infrastructure isn't just about buildings, you're motivated by the opportunity to create environments that support a lasting impact on the health and wellbeing of communities across Aotearoa.
You Will Bring:
- 10+ years of senior leadership experience delivering large-scale infrastructure projects (up to $1b), ideally in a health context.
- Proven ability to manage commercial performance, risk, and stakeholder engagement in complex environments.
- Deep understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and its application in the health sector.
- Political nuance and the ability to navigate government priorities and public expectations.
- Proven experience delivering complex infrastructure within a live operational environment, ideally in a health context.
