PGG Wrightson Seeds is the largest proprietary seed company in the Southern Hemisphere, servicing New Zealand and global markets. We cover every stage of the seed journey - from research and development through to production, supply, and on-farm support.
We’re looking for a Seed Analyst or Trainee Seed Analyst to join our Laboratory team at the Kimihia Research Centre. The level of appointment will depend on your skills and experience - so whether you’re an experienced seed analyst or a graduate ready to start your career, we’d like to hear from you.
About the role
Working as part of a high-performing lab team, you’ll be involved in conducting seed purity, germination, thousand-seed weight, and endophyte testing in accordance with ISTA and MPI standards. You’ll ensure results are accurate, recorded correctly, and delivered on time to support our research, production, and customer requirements.
For experienced analysts, you’ll bring proven technical expertise and the ability to work independently. For trainees, you’ll receive full training in seed testing methodologies, seed identification, and data management, developing the skills needed to achieve ISTA proficiency accreditation.
What we’re looking for
- For Seed Analyst: A degree or diploma in Agricultural Science, Botany, Biology, or a related field, plus experience in a seed laboratory and proficiency in ISTA testing.
- For Trainee Seed Analyst: A science-related qualification (degree, diploma, or relevant experience) and a strong willingness to learn seed testing procedures.
- Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and organisational skills.
- Ability to follow protocols, manage time effectively, and meet deadlines.
- Good computer skills, particularly in Microsoft Excel, and confidence recording and analysing data.
- Clear communication skills and a collaborative approach.
- Commitment to safe work practices and quality standards.
Why join us?
- Be part of a respected, science-led agricultural company with global reach.
- Gain exposure to both commercial and research testing in a well-equipped laboratory.
- For trainees — develop skills toward ISTA accreditation with full training provided.
- Work in a collaborative, supportive team environment where your contribution matters.
