The Senior Data and Insights Analyst reports to the Manager Procurement Intelligence and Insights within the New Zealand Government Procurement (NZGP) branch.
The Senior Data and Insight Analyst undertakes information gathering, data management, reporting and analysis functions to ensure that insights are gained. These insights can be used to inform the NZGP strategic direction and operations and assist with MBIE, Regional Development Commercial Services (RDCS) and external stakeholder initiatives.
The successful candidate will bring a strong business perspective and clear understanding of the value that efficient and effective exploitation of data and information assets brings to an organisation. You will identify opportunities for innovation in reporting and analytics capability.
You will provide expert support and guidance across NZGP and support the Manager NZ Procurement Intelligence and Insights in delivering the Branch approach to data management, reporting, analysis and information by ensuring the use of the appropriate analytical tools.
In this role you will:
- Develop robust analytical solutions for the team and stakeholders
- Effectively communicating initiatives and progress to relevant business users and groups
- Support teams to become self-sufficient in Data and Insights
- Mentoring the Data and Insights Analysts and promoting learning opportunities
- Extract, prepare and manipulate data for modelling and analytics

- 3+ years' experience working with Business Intelligence and analytical tools, principles, methodologies along with a demonstrated commitment to developing and maintaining specialist skills and knowledge in the area.
- At least 2+ years hands on experience with SQL, R, Snowflake and Power BI.
- At least 2 years of experience working in cross-functional teams and collaborating with business stakeholders to deliver data initiatives or data products.
- Highly developed analytical and conceptual thinking ability.
- Considerable analytical experience using complex and disparate information to deliver insights and trends.
- Relevant Tertiary qualification or comparable relevant experience and/or professional development demonstrating qualifications for the role is desirable.
- Ability to translate information and analysis into outputs which are readily interpreted by operational areas.
- Significant experience in data analysis, data quality management, data visualisation and data governance frameworks. Demonstrated ability to gather, manipulate, analyse data, and generate
- appropriate reports in a timely manner.
- The ability to synthesise business, policy and technical issues and present them with simplicity and clarity that can be understood by a range of audiences.
- Excellent interpersonal skills; demonstrated by credibility, personal or collaborative influence, managing expectations and targeted persuasion.
- High degree of political nous and a strong working knowledge of the machinery of government
- Considerable experience in dealing with ambiguity in a complex and dynamic environment.
- Experience working in projects and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Must have the legal right to live and work in New Zealand
