Job Description


Are you a talented and ambitious university student studying Media & Communications looking to gain practical experience in your field of study? We have the perfect internship opportunity for you to join OceanaGold, working at our Macraes Mine in Otago.

This paid internship opportunity will run from mid-November through to mid-February (dependent on exam timetable of the successful applicant) and work with our talented Communications team on-site at Macraes. Roster of 5 days on, 2 days off, 4 days on, 3 days off, 7am – 4:30pm daily.

What will you be doing?

  • Gaining practical experience in your chosen field of study by working on diverse projects assigned by department managers and team members
  • Participating in various group activities and projects with other Interns, providing you with a well-rounded knowledge of the mining process.
  • Presenting your experiences and key learnings to the Site Management Team at the conclusion of the internship, showcasing your growth and achievements.

Specific project work will involve:

Using OceanaGold’s sponsorship, donations, and partnerships to develop content (photography and video). Additionally, identify proactive media opportunities to pitch to relevant outlets to build OceanaGold's reputation as a business that supports its local community.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting in building and organising a digital content library
  • Helping to develop compelling stories for local media outreach
  • Contributing to the development of internal and external content ideas across all areas of the site
  • Identifying opportunities to promote key partnerships and sponsorships through various channels

Qualifications
  • Full Class 1 Drivers licence (ability to drive manual vehicles is preferred)
  • Available across Nov-February 2025/26
  • In your 2nd last or final year of study in Media & Communications (or similar)
  • Have somewhere to stay in Dunedin, Oamaru and surrounds, and happy to bus to site daily
  • Curious and inquisitive mindset with a passion for problem solving
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
  • Familiarity with photography and video filming and editing would be beneficial
