Job Description
Position Overview:
The Mechanical Team Lead will be responsible for leading a team of skilled professionals to continuously improve and develop new TOMRA Food products providing technical knowledge and expertise to ensure our solutions are fit for purpose, market relevant and meet our customer’s needs.
This role combines expertise in mechanical engineering and knowledge of electrical and automation systems to ensure the seamless integration of mechanical and electrical systems.
This team lead will play a crucial role in overseeing projects, managing a team, and collaborating with other departments to achieve organizational goals.
Responsibilities:
Leadership
- Lead, mentor, and inspire a team of electromechanical engineers
- Take the lead in maintaining connections with the Electromechanical teams at TOMRA Food in other regions
- Ensure the reuse of technology, processes, and tools whenever possible
- Provide professional expertise and leadership in all elements of mechanical design
- Lead cross functional workload and project planning for projects
- Mentoring and development of team members through project tasks, goal setting and performance reviews
Development
- Define product scope, goals and deliverables that support business goals in collaboration with senior management, product management and stakeholder
- Develop best practices and tools for mechanical design and team management
- Direct participation in future research planning and the decision-making process. Key contributor to the development roadmap
- Work with project managers to develop full-scale project plans and associated communications documents
- Plan, schedule and track project timelines and milestones using appropriate tools
- Estimate the resources and participants needed to achieve project goals
- Ensure effective mechanical + electrical design and product testing in-house and in the field
- Ensure designs and documentation meet appropriate compliance and regulations
Mechanical Design and Electrical & Electronic Technical
- Design and develop mechanical systems for TOMRA Food products providing strong capability in mechanical design
- Knowledge of electrical and automation systems, ability to specify requirements and integrate systems
- Key component selection and design
- Provide management of mechanical design processes and designs to assembly and service technicians, electricians and sub-contractors
Qualifications
About you:
- Bachelor's or higher degree in Mechanical Engineering, or a related field
- 7+ years’ mechanical engineering background
- 3+ years’ experience leading a mechanical engineering team, preferably involving machinery, electrical systems and automation
- Strong technical ability in a senior mechanical engineering role with proven experience in developing cross functional products for global manufacture
- Experience with CAD software for electromechanical design
- Knowledge of PLC programming and control systems
- Familiarity with automation and robotics
- In-depth knowledge mechanical design principles
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Familiarity with relevant industry standards and regulations
- Proven experience in leading mechanical engineering teams
- Strong project management skills with the ability to prioritize and delegate tasks effectively
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
- Ability to work in an open office environment as well as industrial customer worksites
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally, up to 30% of time
