Christchurch is getting ready to open a state-of-the-art, multi-use stadium - and we're looking for the right highly skilled turf management professionals to bring it to life. This cutting-edge stadium is set to become the go-to venue for major regional, national and international sporting events and concerts, showcasing top-tier talent on a world-class stage.

About the team | Ko te rōpū nei
As we prepare for opening day and beyond, we're assembling a talented and passionate sports turf management team to maintain and elevate the playing surface that will host unforgettable moments. We have multiple positions available all vital to keeping the playing surface in top condition.

The team operates under a structured hierarchy to ensure the efficient planning, service and enhancement of all turf areas within the stadium precinct and the associated dedicated turf farm.

About the role | Ko te mahi nei
As the Turf Manager, you'll provide overall leadership and strategic direction for turf operations at One New Zealand Stadium at Te Kaha and associated facilities. This includes budget management, resource planning, event coordination, and ensuring compliance with health, safety, and industry standards. The Turf Manager oversees the full team and acts as the primary liaison with stadium management and event stakeholders.

Due to the nature of operations at a high-performance, multi-use venue, the Te Kaha Turf Management Team will operate on a flexible, 7-day roster. Team members will be required to work some weekends, public holidays, and outside standard business hours as required, to support events at the venue. Rosters will be planned in advance and include fair and equitable distribution of hours.

This flexible approach ensures the playing surface and surrounding turf areas are maintained to the highest standards before, during, and after all scheduled events.

About you | Ko Koe Tēnei

As the Turf Manager you'll have strong leadership and collaboration abilities, you'll be an excellent communicator, able to successfully build and maintain various stakeholder relationships. Along with this you will also bring:

  • Minimum 8 years relevant experience in a high-performance sports facility environment.
  • Minimum 3 years supervisory/leadership/project management experience
  • Knowledge of maintaining and developing sports fields
  • Physically fit for outdoor work
  • Competent with keeping self and others safe while working in the outdoors
  • Degree in Agronomic Science or relevant Botanical Science or NZQA Level 6 Sports Turf Management coupled with relevant practical experience.
  • Full driver's licence
  • Grow safe
  • Current Workplace First Aid Certificate
  • Experience in a Parks environment within local Government is desirable
  • Ability to work across a 7 day roster

About One New Zealand Stadium at Te Kaha

From All Blacks tests to star-studded concerts - and everything in between - One New Zealand Stadium at Te Kaha will host around 200 events each year.

On track to open in April 2026, the stadium is located in the heart of Christchurch, bounded by Tuam, Madras, Hereford and Barbadoes Streets.

Just a ten-minute walk from the city's Bus Interchange and surrounded by vibrant hospitality spots and accommodation options, the covered stadium will play a key role in re-establishing Christchurch as a sporting and cultural capital.

One New Zealand Stadium at Te Kaha will add to the central city's vitality, catalyse further development, and boost the local economy by attracting visitors from around New Zealand and the world.
