Northern Health School
New Zealand
Part time
Part Time, Permanent (21 hours per week, school term time only, school holidays unpaid)
Commencing ASAP

We are looking for an enthusiastic, competent administrator to join our successful, friendly team and work alongside teachers to support the delivery of educational services to our students/ākonga.

We anticipate that weekly hours will be worked across 3 days, one of which must be a Friday, but otherwise there is some flexibility for this to be negotiated with the successful applicant.

There is a feel-good aspect to the role as you will be part of an organisation that makes a difference for the more vulnerable children and young people in our society. Northern Health School is a Ministry of Education funded school that supports a learning environment that promotes good mental, physical, emotional and social growth. We provide education and transition support for year 0-14 students while their health prevents them from attending their regular school fulltime.

You will need initiative, flexibility and be able to demonstrate excellent computer skills (Microsoft Office), including confidence working on-line.

Other qualities that will be highly valued in this role are:
Exceptional organisational skills – able to manage multiple tasks and keep systems and tasks running smoothly in a busy environment.

Clear and professional communication – a good level of written and spoken English to interact confidently with staff, parents, students, and visitors.

Warm and welcoming disposition – create a positive environment for visitors to the school.

Empathy and understanding – particularly when dealing with students, families, and sensitive situations.

Team-oriented attitude – work collaboratively with the unit leaders, as well as teaching and support staff to maintain a smooth daily operation.

Northern Health School promotes the values of Te Tiriti o Waitangi within the culture of our school.

A full clean New Zealand driving licence and police check are necessary for this role.

Close date for application: 1 August 2025

Waikato Unit – Frankton, Hamilton

NHS Waikato Unit serves the Waikato hospital and surrounding areas of Hamilton including Ngāruawāhia, Huntly, Te Kauwhata, Raglan, and between.

NHS Waikato unit teachers work with school age students in both hospital and in the community who meet Northern Health School admission criteria. Education programmes are planned in association with staff of the student’s regular school and may include Te Aho O Te Kura Pounamu (Correspondence School) subjects. An ILP (Individual Learning Plan) is developed for each student in association with their school of enrolment, parents and any others who may be involved in their wellbeing.

NHS teachers may visit students in their homes depending on their health needs, and students may attend NHS student support centre or their school of enrolment on a part time basis. When the time is appropriate, the NHS teacher will help transition student back to school on a full time or reduced timetable basis.

When visiting students in the community teachers may have the use of a NHS vehicle; however should a vehicle be unavailable, teachers will be expected to use their own vehicle and be reimbursed according to the teacher’s collective agreement.

ICT is an integral part of Northern Health School’s administration, programme development and student record activities. Teachers in all of our units must be prepared to use ICT extensively in the course of their work.

Teachers are responsible to the Waikato Unit Associate Principal and supported by office administrators and a teacher aide.
