The Opportunity:
Are you an experienced and motivated Social Worker with advanced clinical skills and a passion for supporting patients and whaanau in an acute hospital setting?
We are seeking a dynamic Advanced Clinician Medical Social Worker to join our Acute Allied Health team at Middlemore Hospital. This is a senior position within the Medical and Renal Social Work teams, where you'll provide expert clinical leadership, manage complex cases, and work collaboratively with the PPPR Advanced Clinician and senior Allied Health staff.
In this rewarding role, you will deliver holistic, patient- and whaanau-centred care, advocating for optimal outcomes across the continuum of care. You’ll be a key part of an interdisciplinary team, supporting patients throughout their hospital journey—from admission to discharge planning—while also contributing to service development and clinical excellence.
You will bring:
- A recognised Social Work qualification and current registration with the Social Work Registration Board (SWRB)
- At least 6 years of post-graduate experience, including significant time in inpatient medical settings
- Expertise in complex case management and cross-disciplinary collaboration
- Experience in teaching, mentoring and coaching
- Experience in leading innovation and quality improvement
- Research and audit contribution
- A demonstrated commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and achieving equitable health outcomes for Maaori and priority populations
This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the development of bicultural social work practice and lead quality improvement initiatives in a large, fast-paced tertiary hospital environment.
If you are a proactive leader with advanced clinical reasoning, a passion for equity, and the drive to make a difference—we’d love to hear from you.
