About the Role
The ORA Wellington Community Team has an exciting opportunity for a Social Worker to join our service for a fixed term while one of our staff members takes planned leave. This role is one of 2 community social work roles working within a multidisciplinary team delivering Social Work interventions from a health perspective. Our main client groups are older adults and patients with a rehabilitation focus. You will be providing comprehensive social work assessments and interventions for clients in the community, working alongside them to improve their wellness and wellbeing. The salary is based as per SECA - Step 3-8
About the Team/Service
The ORA Community Services work with people with acquired neurological, long term, or age-related conditions including stroke, progressive neurological conditions, dementia, frailty and post trauma conditions. The teams are multidisciplinary including Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Speech-language Therapists, Social Workers, Dietitians, Liaison Nurses and Allied Health Assistants, with close links with Nurse Practitioners, Geriatricians and a Rehabilitation Physician. There are three community teams geographically located in Wellington, Porirua and Kapiti. This role is in the Wellington team based at the Ewart Building in Newtown.
We offer on-going professional development opportunities including inter-professional practice training, professional support, profession specific training though the relevant professional leaders and clinical supervision. Cultural professional supervision is available from Māori and Pacific Health teams.
About you
This role would suit a Social Worker with at least 3 years post graduate experience in the general health setting. Experience in understanding in working alongside with patients and families to understand their goals and needs, alongside an understanding of medico-legal complexity and supporting informal carers would be favourable. Evidence based practice is at the heart of our service, so a commitment to keeping up-to-date on research and an interest in quality improvement activities would be an advantage. On the job training will be provided from our skilled and supportive team.
This role would suit a candidate with strong communication and organizational skills as well as an ability to build relationships and work well with clients, their whanau, colleagues in primary care, as well as other health service providers.
Our successful candidate will have:
- Community Social Work experience (essential)
- New Zealand Social Work registration (meeting the requirements of the NZ Social Workers Registration Board) and a current APC
- Current Social Work competence to practice certificate
- A clear understanding of the health needs of our Māori and Pacific Island communities
- Be able to undertake comprehensive social work assessments and work collaboratively with others to provide integrated care.
- Working visa/NZ residence (as appropriate)
