We are Aotearoa New Zealand's privacy regulator - a small, Independent Crown Entity established to protect and promote individual privacy.
Ko te turanga - the role
This is a key role in our Investigations and Dispute Resolution team. It provides an initial point of assessment for the triaging and early resolution of complaints received by the Privacy Commissioner from members of the public about alleged breaches of their privacy.
It will include identifying and undertaking the early resolution of complaints, with an emphasis on the use of alternative dispute mechanisms, where early resolution is feasible. In addition you may be required to assist with more detailed investigation and dispute resolution work.
At a systems level, you will review the effectiveness of our complaints assessment framework, identifying options to improve processes and procedures for triaging or resolving complaints to ensure they are fair, transparent and effective.
Nga pumanawatanga ou - what you will bring
- Experience in a similar regulatory position would be highly advantageous, which may include a mix of the assessment of complaints, dispute resolution, the interpretation and application of legislation and legal principles.
- A legal qualification and 2+ years experience in a legal or related role is preferred.
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and in writing, and the ability to ask the right questions to quickly obtain required information.
- As the role carries its own caseload and work programme you must be able to manage competing priorities, with a focused, results-oriented approach to work.
- An understanding and ability to recognise and understand key Maori, disability, and other cultural and human rights concepts in a practical setting.
- An inquiring mind coupled with an understanding of government and business systems and processes.
- Experience with, or a keen interest in, privacy law.
