6-month Fixed Term / Secondment for Advisor – Personnel Security
Are you passionate about protecting New Zealand’s interests and supporting a secure public sector? We’re looking for a motivated and detail-oriented individual to join our Workplace Services Group, Security Risk Management Team, as an Advisor – Personnel Security, Security for a 6-month fixed-term role covering maternity leave.
This is a great opportunity to contribute to the Department’s national security clearance lifecycle, provide expert advice, and build strong relationships across a diverse range of stakeholders.
What You’ll Do
- Assess and process national security clearance applications.
- Guide staff and managers through the clearance process and their ongoing obligations.
- Maintain accurate records, guidance, and procedures.
- Maintain and create guidance, processes, and procedures.
- Monitor and report on personnel security and clearance suitability.
- Conduct debriefs with security clearance holders.
- Liaise with external agencies and stakeholders through our established channels.
- Support continuous improvement of personnel security processes.
- Build and maintain strong relationships across all levels of the Department.
- Support the Senior Advisor Personnel Security across the national security clearance lifecycle.

Essential Skills & Experience
- Proven ability to deliver high-quality customer service.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience working with diverse stakeholders.
- Understanding of workflow processes and systems.
- Ability to manage priorities effectively in a team environment.
Desirable Skills
- Experience or familiarity with the Government’s Protective Security Requirements (especially PERSEC).
- Knowledge of risk and assurance frameworks.
- Understanding of the machinery of government.
- Experience delivering agile, customer-centric solutions.
Additional Requirements
This role requires the successful candidate to obtain and maintain a SECRET level National Security Clearance. To be eligible, you must:
- Be a New Zealand citizen.
- Have a checkable background of at least 10 years.
