Archives New Zealand Te Rua Mahara o te Kawanatanga sits within Te Haumi | Enterprise Partnerships branch, the Department's epicentre of information management, culture and heritage. Our branch is all about collecting, storing and preserving important things that are precious to New Zealand. Archives New Zealand is committed to working effectively with Maori, and upholding matauranga Maori.
We have a fixed-term vacancy for an Archivist to work in our newly established Lower North Island team until 1 May 2026, covering a period of parental leave.
Key skills we are looking for include:
- experience working in archives, records or related heritage environments
- an understanding of best practice in archival arrangement and description
- an understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and a commitment to ensuring archives are managed in a way that reflects Crown-Maori relationships
- familiarity with the Public Records Act 2005 and related legislation
- attention to detail, patience and accuracy
- ability to manage relationships with key government agencies
