Open Polytechnic is seeking a Assistant Accountant to join our Financial Services team on a permanent basis. This position is based at our campus in Lower Hutt and plays a key role in supporting the effective delivery of finance operations.

The Assistant Accountant works closely with Finance Assistants and other team members to ensure the accurate and timely processing of fixed asset information in the Financial Management Information System (FMIS - TechnologyOne).

Key responsibilities include:

• Creation, disposal, and adjustment of assets, along with the month-end processing of depreciation and amortisation.
• Supporting financial reporting and ensuring compliance
• Preparing balance sheet reconciliations
• Completing GST returns
• Managing regular reporting for government initiatives such as Fees-Free
• Overseeing the relationship with the debt collection agency
• Providing leave cover for the Senior Finance Assistant

Reporting to the Finance Manager, the Assistant Accountant supports the resolution of escalated queries and contributes to the preparation of month-end reporting for review.

• Relevant tertiary qualification
• Minimum of 2-3 years experience in a similar role
• Fixed Assets understanding and maintenance experience.
• Sound knowledge of financial and administrative policies and procedures.
• Good interpersonal and oral communication skills, both face to face and in telephone contact.
• Excellent written communication skills with the ability to communicate information effectively
• Well-developed word processing, data processing and spread sheeting skills.
• Confidence and ability to learn new technologies and processes
• A high level of accuracy and meticulous attention to detail.
