Audit Director or Associate Audit Director - Wellington

Make a meaningful impact in the public sector for all New Zealanders.

At Audit New Zealand, we're committed to improving public sector performance and strengthening the public's trust in government. As the leading provider of public sector audit and assurance services, we play a vital role in supporting the work of the Office of the Auditor-General, ensuring our organisation is seen as trustworthy by all New Zealanders, including our Treaty partners.

We're looking for an experienced audit professional to join us as an Audit Director. In this senior role, you'll lead a portfolio of audits across a diverse mix of public organisations, central and local government bodies, and for-profit organisations that serve the public interest. There is also an Audit Director role in our Christchurch office.

What you'll do:

  • Make a meaningful impact by providing insights that go beyond the financials and help improve public services.
  • Build and manage strong relationships with senior leaders across the public sector.
  • Champion the development of our people by coaching and mentoring team members to grow their skills and careers.
  • Support and strengthen our relationships with Maori by contributing to how we implement our te ao Maori strategy, Kia Tika, and building capability within your team to do the same.
  • Sign audit reports on behalf of the Auditor-General under the requirements of the Public Audit Act 2001.

Whether you're already an Audit Director or Partner, or an experienced Audit Manager ready for the next step, you'll bring:

  • proven experience delivering high-quality audits;
  • a collaborative leadership style that brings out the best of people;
  • a strategic mindset and strong communication skills; and
  • a commitment to continuous learning and to upholding the values of the public sector.

You must be a Chartered Accountant (or hold an equivalent overseas qualification recognised by the Auditor-General).

We offer our people:

  • Ongoing learning and professional development opportunities.
  • Supportive hybrid working arrangements (flexible hours/days).
  • Health and well-being benefits.
