We are seeking an experienced and safety-conscious Bitumen/Emulsion Sprayer Operator to join our Christchurch-based team. This hands-on role involves the operation of bitumen sprayers and associated equipment on roading and civil infrastructure projects. The ideal candidate will have a solid background in bitumen and emulsion handling, along with proven experience in tanker and sprayer operation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate bitumen sprayers efficiently and accurately, ensuring high-quality application on all projects
- Safely load, transport, and handle bitumen and emulsion products
- Operate tankers and other plant equipment in compliance with safety regulations
- Use telescopic bar equipment effectively for even and controlled distribution
- Carry out daily vehicle and equipment inspections, reporting any defects or maintenance issues
- Follow all health, safety, and environmental procedures, including the use of PPE
- Work collaboratively with site teams and supervisors to meet project timelines
- Maintain accurate records of spray operations and material usage
Key Requirements:
- Proven experience operating bitumen/emulsion sprayers and tankers in a civil or roading environment
- In-depth knowledge of safe handling practices for bitumen and emulsion
- Familiarity with telescopic bar use and calibration
- Valid Class 5 driver's licence preferred
- Strong commitment to health and safety
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work well in a team environment
- Flexibility to work across different sites and potentially variable hours
Desirable:
- WTR endorsement
- Experience in road construction or surfacing
- Basic mechanical skills or an understanding of vehicle/equipment maintenance
