As well as providing Ambulance Services, our programmes and team of over 11,000 staff and volunteers are helping to build strong, resilient communities across the motu; supporting everyone in Aotearoa to live healthier, happier and longer lives.

Making over 90,000 trips per year across the motu, the St John Waka Ora Health Shuttle is a community service, delivered by volunteers that transports people to and from essential health and wellbeing appointments. The service is often used by older people, by people who are unable to drive a vehicle and those who cannot access other transport options.

- About the role:

The Community Transport Manager is responsible for implementation of our Health Shuttle strategy throughout Te Waipounamu/South Island including:

  • Service delivery, new service, expansions, and standard improvements
  • Developing and nurturing relationships with local iwi and community groups
  • Collaborating with internal stakeholders to support the implementation of Maori community health transport initiatives
  • Providing leadership and support to assigned services
  • Contributing to the development, implementation, and monitoring of annual budgets

Based in either Christchurch or Timaru, you'll travel throughout the South Island to engage with, and support, each of your 15 services. This will combine both self-driven commutes and flights. The area covered does not include Nelson/Blenheim or Motueka.

  • Experience in managing, motivating, and engaging teams
  • Demonstrated passion for community engagement and volunteer collaboration
  • Strong personal drive, enthusiasm, and initiative
  • Resilient, positive, and adaptable, with a flexible, and results focused attitude
  • Strong relationship building skills including with community groups, iwi, and internal/external stakeholders
