The Role
Reporting to the Team Leader, Technical & Underground, the position of Control and Protection Technician is to carry out Power Distribution network protection systems maintenance and commissioning. General test/protection tasks are also performed in this role and there may be a requirement to travel outside of the Northern Region from time to time.

Key Responsibilities
- Take ownership of and responsibility for and ensuring network protection schemes and general network systems are maintained and commissioned correctly, to deliver the intended outcome for the owner.
- Carry out final testing and livening on new and existing equipment
- Provide a fault finding and repair service for all high voltage and related equipment.
- Analyse, pinpoint and remedy (repair or replace) equipment and system failures for electricity network owners
Qualifications and Skills
- New Zealand Electrical Registration as an Industrial Electrician or Electrical Fitter with a current practising licence (or equivalent recognised qualification).
- Demonstrated experience or enthusiasm to learn skills in HV and LV electrical infrastructure construction and maintenance, including substations, switchgear and other network-connected equipment.
- Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills in industrial and infrastructure environments.
- Strong communication skills (verbal and written)
- Commitment to workplace health, safety, and environmental standards.
- Current class 1 New Zealand drivers' licence (class 2 an advantage).
- Legally able to work in New Zealand.
