  • Drive professional quality improvements in midwifery
  • Provide an equity lens over maternal and neonatal care provision, supporting improved outcomes for our Women and their Whaanau

Make a difference where it truly matters. Shape the future of midwifery in Counties Manukau.

We are seeking a dynamic, visionary, and people-focused Deputy District Chief Midwife to join the senior leadership team at one of New Zealand’s largest and most complex hospitals – home to the country’s highest birthing population. This is a rare opportunity to lead meaningful change and innovation in a system that touches thousands of lives every year.

About the role

This is a front-facing operational and change leadership role, working closely with the Chief Midwife, Senior Leadership Team (SLT), Group Leadership Team (GLT), and wider services to ensure excellence in midwifery care.

In this role, your key responsibilities will include:

  • Ensuring safe staffing and leading the implementation tools such as CCDM, TrendCare, etc. across maternity and community
  • Reviewing adverse events, complaint resolution, and outcome improvement
  • Strategic workforce planning – identifying gaps and reallocating resources where they are needed most
  • Supporting professional development, wellbeing, and retention of midwives through innovation.
  • Working in close collaboration with the multi-disciplinary team to uphold high standards of safe, equitable, and person-centred midwifery care for mothers and newborns.

Reporting to the District Chief Midwife, this role offers the autonomy to lead and innovate, giving you the opportunity to shape the future of midwifery and drive meaningful change across the system. You will enjoy the unique blend of working across both hospital and community settings, offering the best of both worlds in your leadership practice.
