About the role

A rare opportunity has become available for two permanent Midwife Manager's to join our Maternity Team at Dunedin Hospital on a permament fulltime or part time basis (we are flexible with what hours you want to work!), the tertiary hospital of Health New Zealand Southern. Here you will make a meaningfully contribution to our Kaupapa of providing a safe and positive childbearing experience to all expectant pregnant people in our region.

As the Midwife Manager, you will lead and support the Dunedin Hospital Maternity Unit (named Queen Mary), providing clinical and operational leadership to ensure the service is responsive to the changing needs of our community and health system.

At Dunedin Hospital our supportive leadership team, which includes Clinical Midwife Managers, Postnatal Midwife coordinators, Midwife Educators, Midwife Clinical Coaches, MQSP coordinators, MCWCP coordinators, Service Managers and Director of Midwifery are all committed to your success and growth in this role, and we will welcome your contribution, knowledge and wisdom. About you

Alongside your strong leadership skills and extensive midwifery experience, our ideal candidate will also be an excellent communicator with proven clinical credibility in all aspects of midwifery care and be able to demonstrate ability to lead from the front with diverse groups of people or complex cases.

Some of the skills we are looking for are as follows:

  • It is essential that you are a NZ Registered Midwife and hold a current annual practicing certificate
  • Possess the ability to think outside the square, communicate effectively and promote best practice and standards of midwifery care
  • Tertiary operational management experience
  • Demonstrate sound professional judgement
  • Have relevant knowledge of patient safety and resource management, including budgeting, equipment and staff management
  • Demonstrate clinical quality, safety and best practice.
  • Confidence to build successful working relationships with those around you, the ability to work independently or within a multidisciplinary team environment
  • Confidence with te ao Māori, tikanga, and te reo Māori or a commitment to starting your journey and taking ownership of your learning and growth
  • Hold a relevant post-graduate qualification
