Role Overview
Reporting to our Digital Practice Lead, you will own solution architecture for complex cloud, hybrid and integration projects centred on Microsoft Azure. You will work side-by-side with senior public-sector stakeholders—guiding them through NZISM, privacy-by-design and procurement frameworks—while still rolling up your sleeves to validate designs, set patterns and mentor teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as a trusted advisor across ministries, Crown entities and tier-one corporates, translating business, regulatory and security needs into reference architectures.
- Produce functional and non-functional designs, architecture decision records and road-maps that align with NZ Government Digital Strategy, All-of-Government cloud-hosting standards and Well-Architected frameworks.
- Lead design reviews, risk assessments and assurance gates; resolve complex Azure and hybrid issues spanning identity, integration, data and security.
- Coordinate partner vendors and internal Theta squads to deliver end-to-end outcomes.
- Coach other architects and engineers; contribute reusable patterns and thought-leadership to our national Architecture Community of Practice.
Essential:
- 5+ years’ New Zealand (or other Five-Eyes country) architecture experience on Azure or hybrid platforms.
- Proven success delivering solutions into Wellington’s public-sector ecosystem (e.g., familiarity with NZISM, GCIO guidelines, AoG procurement).
- Depth in application-integration, identity, API management, infrastructure-as-code and automated compliance testing.
- Exceptional stakeholder engagement and written/verbal communication—able to brief CIOs and programme boards with equal ease.
- Exposure to AWS, M365, Dynamics 365 or Power Platform in Government contexts.
- TOGAF / SAFe certs, Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert.
- Security or privacy-engineering certifications (CISSP, ISO 27001).
