At Environment Southland, we work alongside our community to manage Southland's land, water, air, and coast, from Stewart Island to Fiordland. After a recent organisational redesign, we're investing in specialist roles that will help us respond to the unique challenges of our region. We're now looking for an experienced Environmental Scientist - Land to join our high-performing Science Investigations and Operations Team.
About the role
The Environmental Scientist Land contributes to the overall performance of the Science Investigations and Operations Team by providing research, analysis and reporting in the field of soil and land science.
This role focuses on:
- Providing advice and expertise in soil and land science relevant to the needs of Council
- Developing, implementing and managing soil and land science monitoring programmes and investigations
- Participating in the development and implementation of soil and land science management strategies and programmes aligned with meeting organisational outcomes
- Support assessment and management of Selected Land Use Sites (SLUS) and Hazardous Activities and Industrial List (HAIL) sites.
What you'll bring
- A post-graduate qualification (MSc or PhD) in a relevant science discipline
- 3+ years' experience in soil, land science or environmental investigation
- Sound understanding of NZ environmental legislation, standards, and reporting
- Strong data interpretation, research, and technical reporting skills

An initial offer of remuneration will be made within the range $102,240 - $107,920.
