About this role:
We have an opportunity for a Finance Team Leader - Planning & Reporting to join our Finance Team! In this role, you will lead the financial planning and performance functions that support informed decision-making, help the Council achieve its objectives, and deliver meaningful guidance to budget managers and the broader organisation.
What I do?
- Lead the production of financial insights, reports, and key documentation like the Long Term Plan, Annual Plans and Annual Report.
- Coordinate annual budgeting and financial forecasts across Council.
- Provide robust financial advice, analyse financial results, and identify risks in a timely and accurate manner.
- Develop team members, set clear goals, and foster a positive work environment.
- Build a cohesive and high-performing team with succession planning.
- Drive innovation and improve systems and processes to reduce costs and enhance productivity.
- Build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
What I bring?
- A Chartered Accountant certification or be member of the New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accounts or equivalent.
- Extensive financial/management accounting background (10+ years) or Financial Leadership experience (5+ years).
- Experience with Technology One software.
- An understanding of Local Government funding and financing mechanisms e.g. Council reserve accounting, development contributions, rates, subsidies etc.
- Strong analytical and reporting skills, with a focus on strategic decision making and risk management.
