About this role:

We have an opportunity for a Finance Team Leader - Planning & Reporting to join our Finance Team! In this role, you will lead the financial planning and performance functions that support informed decision-making, help the Council achieve its objectives, and deliver meaningful guidance to budget managers and the broader organisation.

What I do?

  • Lead the production of financial insights, reports, and key documentation like the Long Term Plan, Annual Plans and Annual Report.
  • Coordinate annual budgeting and financial forecasts across Council.
  • Provide robust financial advice, analyse financial results, and identify risks in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Develop team members, set clear goals, and foster a positive work environment.
  • Build a cohesive and high-performing team with succession planning.
  • Drive innovation and improve systems and processes to reduce costs and enhance productivity.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

What I bring?

  • A Chartered Accountant certification or be member of the New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accounts or equivalent.
  • Extensive financial/management accounting background (10+ years) or Financial Leadership experience (5+ years).
  • Experience with Technology One software.
  • An understanding of Local Government funding and financing mechanisms e.g. Council reserve accounting, development contributions, rates, subsidies etc.
  • Strong analytical and reporting skills, with a focus on strategic decision making and risk management.

Hours of work: 40 Hours per week
