Our Opportunity:
We currently have a vacancy for a Geothermal Geochemist role to support our geothermal operations, directly reporting to the Geoscience Manager, and will be based in our Rotorua office. In this role with Mercury, you will have an opportunity to work with a multidisciplinary team of geoscientists and engineers, be a part in the development and management of geothermal resources in New Zealand, and in the transition into a low carbon economy with renewable power generation.
Key responsibilities:
- Management of shallow aquifer water resources as part of field consent monitoring and reporting, including high level geochemical interpretation, hydrological assessment and flow/geochemical modelling
- Geochemical monitoring and assessment of reservoir processes and their integration with other field information to manage the reservoir health and performance of geothermal fields, maintain the generation of geothermal stations, and compliance to field consent conditions.
- Work on projects that support business goals, operations, innovations, and development opportunities
We are looking for:
- A BSc/BA/BE degree in earth sciences, chemistry or chemical engineering is essential but a MS/MA is preferred
- A 3-5 years working experience in the geothermal industry on geochemistry and reservoir management, groundwater/ surface features monitoring, laboratory operations, and field geochemical sampling is advantageous
- Proven computer skills in MS Office Suite, graphing softwares, and use of databases
- Ability to work with high degree of independence and awareness of industry operational and safety practices
- Work well with others, and has excellent verbal and written English communication skills
