We have an exciting opportunity for a dedicated and experienced Head Chef to join our BNZ team at 80 Queen Street.

From daily café service to high-end catered events, you will help set the tone for quality, hospitality, and professionalism. 

 Mō te Tūranga | About the Role  

We sat down with our GM Properties, and they let us know the following about the role.   

What are some of the day to day tasks the person in this role will complete?  

• Prepare and present high-quality, fresh food offerings for a modern corporate café, ensuring variety and alignment with seasonal menus. ​ 

• Deliver catering for internal meetings, events, and functions, with a focus on exceptional taste, presentation, and dietary requirements. Ensure food is consistently prepared to a high standard and delivered on time, every time.​ 

• Collaborate with the Hospitality Manager to develop rotating menus that reflect staff preferences, sustainability goals, and emerging food trends.​ 

• Manage day-to-day kitchen operations including food preparation, storage, cleaning, and waste management. Maintain strict compliance with all food safety and hygiene regulations 

What projects / mahi (work) will the candidate be working on now and into the next year?  

In your first six months the focus will be to lead out and establish an in-house café and catering service at BNZ Place Auckland, as well as develop the operating frameworks. Your expertise will contribute to the overall workplace experience, making our Auckland corporate office a hub of collaboration and engagement.   

What is the most exciting thing about this opportunity?  

The most exciting thing about the opportunity to set up the new in-house cafe and catering operations is the chance to create a vibrant, tailored hospitality experience that reflects BNZ values and culture.

What specific skills would be beneficial?  

• Minimum 5 years experience as a Head Chef in a café, restaurant, or catering environment.​ 

• Experience leading a team to deliver service excellence.​ 

• Proven ability to prepare diverse, high-quality dishes at volume.​ 

• Strong understanding of New Zealand food safety legislation and commercial kitchen operations.​
