About the role
As our Housing and Development Lead, you'll play a central role in driving housing and other urban development outcomes for Te Awa Kairangi Lower Hutt.
A major part of your mahi will be leading the housing outcomes associated with the Infrastructure Acceleration Fund, including facilitating the delivery of 3,500 new homes by 2035 on the Valley Floor. Another of your priorities will be driving the re-development of Council-owned land associated with Te Wai Takamori a Te Awa Kairangi | RiverLink. You'll also be the key connection point between Council and the housing sector — liaising with developers, Kāinga Ora, Urban Plus Ltd, iwi, landowners, community housing providers, and central government agencies.
In this role you will:
- Lead Council's work to facilitate housing delivery across Lower Hutt.
- Develop and implement a strategy for the re-development of Council-owned land in the central city.
- Lead the Hutt Central Regeneration inter-agency Working Group.
- Act as the main interface with Urban Plus Ltd, supporting their housing delivery programme.
- Build strong relationships with iwi, Crown agencies, developers, and community housing providers.
- Report progress on housing outcomes to Council and the Crown.
About you
We're looking for an experienced housing & urban development professional with strong sector knowledge and the ability to build lasting partnerships. You'll have a rounded understanding of land use planning, social housing funding, development economics and housing delivery processes.
Ideally, you will bring:
- A qualification in valuation, property law, urban planning, real estate development, development management, or surveying.
- Strong experience in the housing and development sector.
- Leadership skills and experience
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills.
- Strong report writing and communication skills.
- Experience in local government and/or commercial negotiations would be advantageous.
