  • 3-month programme running from 24 November 2025 to 14 February 2026
  • Apply your skills in a unique work environment

He angitutanga mutunga kore mō te ihumanea pēnā i a koe: Endless possibilities for an intern like you at Auckland Council

He angitūtanga: The opportunity

As a Workplace Travel Intern, you’ll gain hands-on experience across a wide range of transport and travel activities — from analysing fleet and travel data to helping with electric vehicle maintenance. You’ll work alongside our Workplace Travel Advisors and Coordinators to support Council Group Kaimahi (staff) in getting where they need to go to do their jobs.

You'll be part of a close-knit team made up of two Workplace Travel Advisors, three Workplace Travel Coordinators, and the Manager of Workplace Travel. Together, this team manages the Council’s vehicle fleet, air travel, and accommodation services.

What Our Previous Interns Have Done:

  • Coordinated with external service providers
  • Provided advice to Kaimahi on workplace travel options
  • Delivered vehicles for servicing
  • Collected and analysed travel and fleet data

Ngā āhuatanga kei a mātou: What we offer

Grow your skills and start your career. Our internship programme ensures you get to do real work that matters and learn from experts in your field. You'll engage in meaningful work, contributing to the development of Auckland as a world-class city.

We offer a supportive environment with mentorship and networking opportunities. You’ll be part of our internship whānau and will be supported every step of the way by a team who want you to succeed, including a buddy, intern liaison, Careers Team, and the wider intern cohort.

You’ll spend the summer developing your technical and soft skills and experiencing what life is like at Auckland Council. By the end of the internship, you’ll hopefully have a good idea of where you want your career to go. Interns may receive priority consideration for our 2-year Graduate Programme, setting the stage for your future career.
