Kauria ngā wai o ngā roto, kauria ngā wai o ngā kaupapa nui! Swim the tranquil waters of our lakes, bathe in the opportunities working at Council provides.
At Rotorua Lakes Council, we’re looking for an experienced Land Development Engineer to help shape the future of our district. In this role, you’ll provide technical advice and engineering assessments that support sustainable and resilient land development, ensuring our infrastructure continues to meet the needs of our growing community.
You’ll be responsible for reviewing and advising on consent applications, working closely with internal and external stakeholders, particularly in the areas of transport, water, and solid waste. From the early stages of the consent process, you’ll help streamline pre-application discussions to ensure a smooth and customer-focused experience. Your role will also involve quality assurance and risk management related to land development compliance, with a focus on protecting Council’s existing assets and ensuring new infrastructure meets our engineering standards.
To be successful, you’ll bring a relevant tertiary qualification in land development or civil engineering – ideally BE (Civil) or MIPENZ – along with at least three years’ experience in land development engineering, preferably within local government or a consultancy setting. A strong understanding of engineering design and construction standards, contract documentation, and infrastructure-related legislation is essential. You’ll be confident working independently, but also thrive in a collaborative environment. Excellent communication skills and the ability to build strong working relationships are key, as is a proactive, solutions-focused approach to problem solving.
Rotorua Lakes Council is a values-driven organisation. We believe in working together to create a district where everyone can thrive. You’ll join a team committed to innovation, continuous improvement, and community wellbeing, with opportunities to develop professionally while contributing to meaningful work.
