About the Role

As a Medical Oncologist, you will be responsible for the medical management of cancer patients across the Canterbury, South Canterbury, and West Coast Districts. Your work will include clinical assessments, treatment planning and oversight, active participation in multi-disciplinary meetings, and the delivery of systemic cancer therapies.

Our Medical Oncology service sees approximately 18,000 patients annually and delivers around 150 treatments weekly. You - ll work in a predominantly outpatient environment, with clinical and treatment space located in the recently built Waipapa Hospital. On-call participation is required as part of the role.

About the Team / Service / Location

You - ll join the Canterbury Regional Cancer & Haematology Service (CRCHS), one of two tertiary cancer centres in the South Island. Our department supports multiple regional services including the South Island Child Cancer Service and the South Island Gynaecological Oncology Service.

We maintain strong academic links with the University of Otago, Christchurch School of Medicine and Health Sciences, contributing to research and education. A dedicated clinical trials team supports a robust portfolio of academic and industry research.


About You

You will be a dedicated and team-oriented specialist, with the following attributes:

  • Fellowship of the RACP (or equivalent international qualification)
  • Eligible for vocational registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand in the scope of Medical Oncology
  • Experience working in a multidisciplinary cancer care setting
  • Interest or experience in clinical research and/or medical education
  • A commitment to equity, patient-centred care, and continuous quality improvement
