The Three Waters Unit provides drinking water, wastewater and stormwater services to over 385,000 people in Christchurch and Banks Peninsula. Our vision is to manage water to sustain life and protect our environment. To assist us in achieving our strategic priority of ensuring a high-quality drinking water supply that is safe and sustainable and to improve environmental outcomes from our management of stormwater and wastewater, we have a vacancy for a Network Operations Engineer.

About the role | Ko te mahi nei

You'll provide technical input and support to the teams who operate the water, wastewater and stormwater pump stations, as well as the quality and compliance for these stations. You'll also be accountable for representing the operations team on capital delivery projects and ensuring Public Health is protected and impacts to the environment are well managed. You'll Assist in the monitoring of overall asset performance and the identification of recurring issues, using Council systems e.g. SAP, SCADA, GIS and review the operational and maintenance needs to ensure that optimisation activities are undertaken in the most effective manner

Your focus will include achieving the organisation goals and deliver on the community outcomes for three waters services. You'll also support the network operations team with a culture of high performance and continuous improvement. You'll assist with the implementation of change as a result of new regulations and central government policy initiatives for water services.

Whilst there will be no routine requirement to work outside of office hours, weekends or public holidays, water supply is a 24/7 business. As such, there could be the request to work outside the normal office hours. Participation on a standby roster is also required.

About you | Ko Koe Tēnei

  • You enjoy helping people solve problems and using your expertise to improve results for your teammates, the organisation and the people of Ōtautahi, Christchurch
  • You'll have minimum 5 years' industry /operational experience in the water or heavy industry environment with operation and/or maintenance of pumps and pumping systems, or equivalent in underground networks / infrastructure / heavy industry with effective relationship and collaboration skills.
  • Having a wealth of knowledge of drinking water legislation would be an advantage.
  • Whilst a tertiary qualification in engineering or other relevant discipline would be desirable, recognition of extensive relevant experience would also qualify.
  • Your can-do attitude and commitment to excellence will come in handy when working alongside a dedicated team who are committed to making a difference in our community.

Hours of work - 37.5 - 40 hours per week

Location - This position is primarily based at Christchurch Wastewater Treatment Plant - Shuttle Drive, Bromley
Salary - The salary band for this position goes from $81,227 to $90,252 per annum based on a 40 hour week. Starting salaries will be based on knowledge, skills and experience the successful candidate brings to the role, and relativities both, within the immediate team and in the broader organisation for the same or similar roles.
