He whakamārama mo te tūranga mahi | About the role:
We have an exciting opportunity for an Operations Manager to join our team based at our Christchurch terminal. In this role, you will lead the daily operations and the team responsible for ensuring efficient train assembly, yard management, and customer-focused service delivery. You’ll drive health and safety leadership, team performance, and efficient resource allocation - all while maintaining a strong focus on service quality and operational compliance. You’ll play a key part in improving rail performance and championing best practices across the terminal. Strong interpersonal skills are essential, as you will manage customer relationships, staff performance, training, compliance and development.
Ngā pukenga e rapu nei mātou | What (skills) you will bring:
- 5+ years of experience in supervisory or management roles within a heavy industrial/unionised environment
- Operational visual leadership – this is not an office job! Expertise in analysing, evaluating and problem-solving, risks and unplanned supply disruptions (forward thinking, organised and resilient)
- Experience in the management of a diverse workforce
- Understanding of health & safety culture and what that means for the organisation, our people, the community, and environment
- Familiarity with logistics, transport, or shift-based operations
- Confidence managing competing demands, rosters, and operational planning
- Current and Full NZ Class 1 Drivers License
