This newly created position will predominately be field based and will work closely with the Chip Seal Project Manager to plan and deliver road resurfacing projects across the South Island. The role involves travel and may occasionally require weekend work.
Position Overview:
The Chip Seal Operations Supervisor is an operational role responsible for overseeing the execution, quality, and safety of chip seal projects throughout the South Island. With 5 - 10 years of specialized experience in chip seal operations, applications and design, this individual will work alongside the Chip Seal Project Manager and deliver operations, including coordination of plant activities, material logistics, and site operations working in conjunction with the Chip Seal Foreperson. The role demands a proactive leader who can make effective decisions in dynamic environments, ensuring client satisfaction, regulatory compliance, and high-quality project outcomes in alignment with quality assurance.
Key Requirements:
Experience & Qualifications:
- 5 - 10 years of hands-on experience in chip seal construction and design.
- Proven track record in supervising chip seal operations, including plant management and field execution.
- Experience in logistics planning and on-site decision-making in high-paced environments.
- Strong background in quality control and health & safety systems.
Skills & Competencies:
- Excellent problem-solving and real-time decision-making abilities.
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to lead diverse teams.
- High-level communication skills for client and stakeholder engagement.
- Technical understanding of bitumen emulsion systems, aggregates, and application rates.
- Sealing plant experience with understanding and knowledge.
Certifications (Preferred but not mandatory):
- Relevant civil construction or road surfacing qualifications.
- Chip seal design
- Relevant trade certificates in plant operation
- Full Class 1 licence with WTR and ideally classes 4 & 5 heavy trade
