About the Role
In this role of Principal Health Analyst, you will contribute to transforming the future of health by providing high-quality analysis of health service activity and performance across Health New Zealand. You'll work with national and regional datasets to extract, collate, and present insights that support decision-making and improve service delivery. This role's primary focus is supporting Mental Health service delivery across hospital and community service provision.
You will be responsible for producing accurate reporting and analysis, supporting responses to OIAs, parliamentary questions, and media enquiries, and contributing to performance monitoring and evaluation frameworks. Your work will help inform strategic planning and ensure accountability across the organisation.
About the Service
This role sits within the Health Analytics team, part of the Planning, Funding and Outcomes function. The team plays a critical role in delivering data-driven insights that support equitable, effective health services across Aotearoa. It works in close partnership with clinical services
The position is hybrid with flexible working arrangements available. There is an expectation of some in-office-based days, but the office location will be determined based on the successful candidates location.
About you
As a Principal Health Analyst for the Health Analytics Team, you will have at least 10 years' experience In analysis as well as:
- Expert knowledge and experience in business intelligence visualisation tools and data techniques to elicit high-quality insights, create dashboards (from requirements gathering, data cleansing, development of insights and process mapping)
- Extensive knowledge of the health sector
- An excellent understanding of the fundamentals of analytics and how the discipline is used to create business and customer value, building strong working relationships and trust with key stakeholders
- Strong communication skills with the confidence and ability to present and defend decisions in a manner appropriate to the needs of the audience.
- Experience with Qlik/Power BI, SQL/Snowflake, MS Excel, data visualisation platforms, and data warehousing concepts to effectively communicate insights and support decision-making.
- Experience in leading new developments in performance monitoring
- Experience in applying critical thinking and using sound judgment to develop options and provide advice.
